Should we start a racing history section?

Postby Lawrence on Tue Dec 09, 2008 4:34 pm

Insert "Racing History" as a sixth category in the forum. Is there enough interest to keep it active?

I'm quite interested in good old racing. Especially because it's something I don't know much about. Thus I think it would be nice with such a section.

But Snowman, if we keep starting new forums based on things you dont know about, we'll run out of room. :loser: :hihi:

I am not so sure if this is a good idea. Lets face it, hardly anybody has been in the forums for the past 10 months or so.

Also when you say racing history do you mean racing from 5 months ago, 5 years ago, 50 years ago or 50 million years ago?( Paul's era)

This is a good idea though. Let's hope more people are interested.

If I may before another thread turns into kindergarten ;) ... I'm not really sure we'd be able to turn such a section into a vibrant one, which is not due to the topic but the amount of posters here that would be able to add sensibly to it

I would very much enjoy reading it, don't get me wrong, but I consider myself too much of a greenhorn provide much sensible additions

But lets not think from the status quo, lets think from were we want to go with this place! One of the important features of this website is the GP encyclopedia, and it is rather odd that 'history' does not take an equally important place on the forum. It may even attract knowledge able new membership.

The encyclopedia as such is crammed with great reports of races of times gone by and god knows what kind of stats. Also, there's plenty of errors, as sometimes people take the trouble to point out. I don't know how is being done with this input though. It doesn't look like it has been updated recently.

So maybe a section like that would blow some life into the encyclopedia as well. Maybe we should have a wikipedia like system to provide updates to the website management

I would just like to state that it wasn't me :hihi:

Back on the point, I think it would be a good idea. I dont know enough to contribute, but I do enjoy reading some of the historical stories. I dont know how many people will be interested, but theres no harm trying I guess.

PS : Sno-Ho, Lawrence's camels are for his use only. Think I'll go play with her.

Any more reaction regarding this idea of Lawrences? I think this topic should be moved to the F1 section where it will more likely to be noticed.
