Well, Edmonton was just cancelled because they asked the local government to chip in another $3.2 million (Canadian, which it somewhat less that U.S).

http://www.indycar.com/news/show/55-izod-indycar-series/40365-edmonton-race-peeled-off-2011-schedule/

Down to 16 races, 8 twisty tracks and 8 round-and-round tracks.

Yea, well it does sort of show the difference between the two markets. $3.2 million would be chump change in F1.

Yeah, if Edmonton were to compare it to what their countrymen are paying for an F1 race, maybe they wouldn't have made such a decision.

Well, the Indy Car silly season is hard to track besides the few top teams. The whole issue is whether the rest can actually make it to the grid or not !!! That is often decided in the month leading up to the first race of the season.

Andretti Autosport - 3 (M. Andretti, Patrick, Hunter-Reay)
Penske - 3 (Power, Castroneves, Briscoe)
Ganassi - 3 (Franchitti, Dixon, Rahal)

Well, these are the big three...and as long as they are racing we have a series. The rest of the field are usualy "spear carriers" (is this now a politically incorrect term?).

But....I gather Andretti is going out of its way to make sure the Hunter-Reay has a set. About time !!! It also makes them the all-American team (we should have at least one in a US based series). I am pleasently surprised to see Ganassi with 3 cars and Rahal in one of them. We shall see how it does compared to the big boys. But at least 9 people have winniing rides, which is about all the F1 has anyway.

Panther - 2 (Hildebrand?/Wheldon?, Carpenter/RC driver?)

Hildebrand and Wheldon both deserves ride. Hope they get it. Carpenter should be retired as his step-father was. He always seems to be around the scene of the accidents.

Dreyer & Reinbold - 2 (Conway, Tracy)

Just as soon see Tracy gone. I don't think he is that fast anymore, but he still hits a lot of people.

De Ferran Dragon - 1 (Kanaan)

I would be very surprised if Kanaan didn't have a home. He hopefully will have a good car.

HVM - 1 (De Silvestro)

I liked her. Would be glad to see her back.

Walker - 1 (Clarke?/Summerton?)

Summeton deserves a ride. He was supposed to be the next American heading into F1.

Coyne - 1 extra (Duno?)

:yay: :yay: :yay:

De Ferran Dragon - 1 extra (Hamilton) Indy, Texas, 2 short tracks

Davey, the washed up Hamilton...not Lewis.

Dreyer & Reinbold - 1 extra (Beatriz?)

Actually, she wasn't too bad either.

RGR - 1 (R. Gordon)

I always liked Brash Gordon.

So, I have the count as:

Full time rides: 24 - 35 (really?)
Part time rides: 4
Indy only: 7

Looks like they will have bigger fields than F1 for another season.

I hope it helps. :clown: :hihi:

Thanks. As good as anything I have seen.

They should leave Takuma out. He looks about as useless as he did in F1. Just when he starts looking good, you rapidly discover he's driving beyond his abilities.

They can leave Duno out. It think its fair to say she's a menace. I'd like to see Simon Pagenaud back though.

IndyCar to reveal new manufacturer

The IndyCar Series is set to announce a new manufacturer for its 2012 rules package, amid reports that Chevrolet will return to the championship.

The whole IndyCar field has run Honda engines since Chevrolet and Toyota withdrew at the end of 2005, but attracting additional manufacturers for both bodywork packages and engines had been a key aim of the series' next generation regulations, which will see teams and constructors free to add different bodywork and engines to a Dallara safety cell.

Chevrolet has been strongly linked to an involvement in the new rules in the American media in recent days, and IndyCar has now scheduled an announcement for the Indianapolis Hall of Fame Museum on Friday.

Things are slowly getting better.

I can't stand the look of the current IRL cars, so can't wait to some new body work.

We might end up with those funny looking triangular chassis with the front wheels either side of the nose.

Yes they are. The new rules allow some variation between cars and some design work. Still, it is not like the old days of CART where you could build your own car, build or buy your own engine, or make any changes you wanted. But, it is a step in the right direction. Will be glad to see the IRL spec "boats" retired.

Cool.....glad to have multiple engines in the series, and Chevy at that. Slowly undoing Tony George's disasterous management one step at a time.

Definately going to make Baltimore in September. It is turning back into a good series.
