Well Robby Gordon and his fat ugly Hummer H3 are out and Mark Miller ( VW Toureg) is currently in 6th overall.

Don't know about Bikes and Trucks categories. I don't follow those.

MINI and Chicherit out!

The X-Raid team's new Mini Dakar entry has been forced out of the rally after Guerlain Chicherit crashed while getting some testing mileage during Saturday's rest day in Arica.

Following early days, Chicherit had shown promising pace as he got the Mini back up to ninth overall by the end of Friday's sixth stage.

But during a practice run yesterday, he crashed heavily, causing severe damage to the Mini and sustaining a head injury. Chicherit was kept under observation in the rally's medical centre and did not require a hospital visit.

X-Raid team boss Sven Quandt said: "Guerlain is not seriously injured, but the car somersaulted once or twice.

"We don't have time to repair and anyway we don't have all the parts we need."

Thanks.

Well, Robby Gordon is well known, and I always liked him. Was the best off-road driver in CART (no joke here...when the car went off track he did an amazing job of keeping it going and getting it back on track. The guy always had far more talent than results). Don't know who Mark Miller is: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mark_Miller_(racer)

So, no real chance the American is going to win it.

De Villiers wins stage 10 and Al Attiyah increases his lead over King Carlos. So far Nasser is driving very well.

Sad news.

Death in Dakar. :yaynot:

Dakar Rally officials have announced that there was a fatal accident during Wednesday's 10th stage of the event.

A statement confirmed that the #410 Toyota of Argentineans Amor Eduardo Osvaldo and Fenoglio Alejandro was involved in a road accident with a non-competing driver at 6:10am yesterday, at the entry to the village of Tinogasta, while on their way to the Chilecito bivouac.

The competitors called for medical support and the injured driver was taken to hospital in Tinogasta, where he was later confirmed dead.

The justice of the Catamarca province has opened an enquiry to establish the circumstances of the accident.
