Loeb wins in Monza.

He may have clinched his eighth World Rally Championship crown in something of an anti-climax after crashing out of Wales Rally GB, but Sebastien Loeb wasn't down for long.

The French ace bounced back to claim the Monza Rally Show event, with wife Severine alongside him in place of regular co-driver Daniel Elena. The husband-and-wife team took Loeb's Citroen DS3 WRC to fastest time on six of the event's nine stages, eventually running out winners by a shade over 24 seconds over multiple MotoGP champion Valentino Rossi, who was partnered in a Ford Fiesta WRC by Carlo Cassina..

The Loebs also won the event-closing Rally Master competition, again beating Rossi and Cassina, who had earlier fended off the attentions of sportscar ace Rinaldo Capello, also driving a Citroen. WRC regular Dani Sordo was fifth overall in a privateer MINI John Cooper Works WRC.

Yeah MINI haven't even come close to winning a WRC rally this year and they win that award. Stupid biased Autosport readers. :loser:

Solberg News

Petter Solberg has revealed that he has no intention of calling time on his World Rally Championship career despite conceding that he has no deal in place for 2012.

The 2003 world champion was speaking at the Autosport Awards event in London last night where he was one of the star guests from the WRC.

He said: “It’s my passion and I really want to be back next year. I was the last driver to beat Sebastien [Loeb], I’m younger than him so I would like to do it again. I have no deal yet but I am trying everything.”

Solberg, who turned 37 last month, placed fifth in the 2011 drivers’ standings following a somewhat frustrating campaign behind the wheel of a privateer Citroen DS3 WRC.

In recent weeks the Norwegian has been linked to drives with Ford and Volkswagen, while older brother Henning Solberg confirmed on Wales Rally GB that tentative discussions have taken place with sponsors in Norway over an all-Solberg line-up in 2012.
