Ductai looking for titles from 2015!

Postby Warweezil on Mon Nov 19, 2012 7:27 pm

Wolfgang Durheimer, Audi's head of research and development and chief of motorsport for the parent Volkswagen group, has said that he believes that the team can progress towards winning titles again under the parentage of VAG - who purchased Ducati earlier this year. His aim is to see Ducati closing in on the front runners in '13, challenging for wins in '14 and possibly a title attempt from '15 forwards.

Of course firstly they have to deal with the obvious handling issues of the Ducati Chassis.

It seems a lot of time was invested in trying to persuade Valentino Rossi to remain with the team - to no avail. I cant help thinking that that isn't exactly a vote of confidence in the teams expectations.

They are talking up the progress they expect to make over the winter - looking to develop the machine in 2013 towards being one that can score points consistently - in order to have a realistic chance of mounting a title challenge.

It would be nice to see Ducati back at the front. I am a long time fan of their bikes, right back to the 250 Desmo of the early 70's - a friend of mine had an old 'H reg Ducati 100, that was fun :hihi:

:rotflmao: Love it! I think its all fluff for the benefit of the VAG board who may be asking what sort of donkey they have landed themselves with.

Correct me if i'm wrong, but didn't Ducati win some titles with Stoner not that long ago? I know they've been dire the last couple of years according to a certain Mr Rossi, odd then that on the first day of testing his best time was beaten by........oh yes, a Ducati!! ;)

I hope they can improve their bikes and get some good results, it would open things up even more to potentially have more bikes with a chance of getting a win.

Stoner was about the only one who could stay upright on that nail..... come a corner the front would wash out and then another rider would be getting a moped ride back to the pit-lane.

VAG have a big job on their hands here. The problem for them is that the point of racing is to sell machines, and right now the image of Ducati isn't being helped by the issues surrounding the handling - issues that have been there for a couple of years. ISTR recall hearing that the problems started when they introduced a Carbon Fibre chassis, I recall the guys on Eurosport talking about the flex in a chassis and the problems in finding the correct stiffness, between that and the front end set up they have a lot to work out..

Lets hope it gets worked out soon.. a 3 way fight would be good.next season.

Yeah I'm hoping for a great season for Cal. Just hope he can keep the momentum up.

The tiny little weightless buggers will probably get the better of him unfortunately

Ducati is like Ferrari: they can always win. Of course, they need an Spaniard on board, not some wannabe from Italy or Australia, ;) but that's another issue.
