Why not? It doesn't have to be the whole song, in fact I suggest an excerpt may stand a better chance of eliciting a reaction. ;)

Ma, whenever ya see a cop beatin' a guy
Wherever a hungry new born baby cries
Wherever there's a fight against the blood and hatred in the air
Look for me ma'
I'll be there
Wherever somebodies stuglin' for a place to stand
For a decent job or a helpin' hand
Wherever somebody is strugglin' to be free
Look in their eyes ma,
You'll see me!
You'll see me!
You'll see me!
Rock!

Harry Belafonte's Cocoanut Woman

Coconut woman is calling out
And everyday you can hear her shout
Coconut woman is calling out
And everyday you can hear her shout
Get your coconut water, four for five
Man it's good for your daughter, four for five
Coco got a lotta iron, four for five
Make you strong like a lion, four for five

A lady tell me the other day
No one can take her sweet man away
I ask her what was the mystery
She say coconut water and rice curry
You can cook it in a pot, four for five
You can serve it very hot, four for five
Coco got a lotta iron, four for five
Make you strong like a lion, four for five

Coconut woman says you'll agree
coconut make very nice candy
The thing that's best if you're feelin' glum
Is coconut water with a little rum
It could make you very tipsy, four for five
Make you feel like a gypsy, four for five
Coco got a lotta iron, four for five
Make you strong like a lion, four for five

More food-related lyrics. This time its Boney M's ultra popular Brown turd from my ringpiece. I mean Brown girl in the ring.

I was going to say, I didn't think that first title you mentioned sounded quite right...

And I stood arrow straight
Unencumbered by the weight
Of all these hustlers and their schemes
I stood proud, I stood tall
High above it all
I still believed in my dreams

I got to get a message through,
I don't know where we're going.
I wrap my arms around your naked shoulders,
take cover for the night.
I see you in the morning rain,
oh step inside and lay beside me.
Tender can you close my eyes and blind me,
oh give me just a smile

Before I fade to silver,
Silver Blue for you.

Before I fade to silver,
Silver Blue for you.

I've turned into The Broken One
who lost the inspiration.
I want to give you all my love like water
to a blood red rose.
The Passion - I can't deal with her.
The Pain - well, I can do without him.
And this is like the milky way, an ocean
that only grows and grows.

And babe I fade to silver,
Silver Blue for you.

I turn and fade to
silver, Silver Blue for you.

I wrap my arms around your naked shoulders,
take cover for the night.

From "Sheep" by Pink Floyd

Roger Waters wrote:Harmlessly passing your time in the grassland away
Only dimly aware of a certain unease in the air
You better watch out
There may be dogs about
I've looked over Jordan and I have seen
Things are not what they seem.

What do you get for pretending the danger's not real
Meek and obedient you follow the leader
Down well trodden corridors into the valley of steel
What a surprise!
A look of terminal shock in your eyes
Now things are really what they seem
No, this is no bad dream.

The Lord is my shepherd, I shall not want
He makes me down to lie
Through pastures green he leadeth me the silent waters by
With bright knives he releaseth my soul
He maketh me to hang on hooks in high places
He converteth me to lamb cutlets
For lo,m he hath great power and great hunger
When cometh the day we lowly ones
Through quiet reflection and great dedication
Master the art of karate
Lo, we shall rise up
And then we'll make the bugger's eyes water.

Bleating and babbling we fell on his neck with a scream
Wave upon wave of demented avengers
March cheerfully out of obscurity into the dream.

Have you heard the news?
The dogs are dead!
You better stay home
And do as you're told
Get out of the road if you want to grow old.

I had started posting a couple of bits (meek & obedient and bleating and babbling) but felt it deserved the full song. The bit in the middle that starts with The Lord.. is largely inaudible, and had been a while since I had read what they were singing.

Oh DUDE!, that's my favourite Floyd song. I think it deserves another...

Come in here dear boy, have a cigar
You're gonna go far
You're gonna fly high
You're never gonna die
You're gonna make it if you try
They're gonna love you

Well I've always had a deep respect
And I mean that most sincerely
The band is just fantastic
That is really what I think
And oh, by the way
Which one's Pink?

And did we tell you the name of the game, boy
We call it Riding the Gravy Train

We're just knocked out
We heard about the sell out
You gotta get an album out
You owe it to the people
We're so happy we can hardly count

Everybody else is just green
Have you seen the chart?
It's a helluva start
It could be made into a monster
If we all pull together as a team

And did we tell you the name of the game, boy
We call it Riding the Gravy Train

(long instrumental)

I can't help about the shape I'm in
I can't sing, I ain't pretty, and my legs are thin
But don't ask me what I think of you
I might not give the answers that you want me to

(longer instrumental)

Now when I talk to God I know he'll understand
He says "Sit by me, I'll be your God in hand
But don't ask me what I think of you
I might not give the answers that you want me to"

(even longer instrumental)
"You can always count on Adam for being the smart-arse around here."

And that was... ?

Here's one. I'm interested to know who can understand this song...

In the year of '39
Assembled here the volunteers
In the days when lands were few.
Here the ship sailed out into the blue and sunny mornin',
The sweetest sight ever seen.
And the night followed day,
And the storytellers say
That the score brave souls inside
For many a lonely day
Sailed across the milky seas
Ne'er looked back, never feared, never cried.

Don't you hear my call
Though you're many years away?
Don't you hear me calling you?
Write your letters in the sand
For the day I take your hand
In the land that our grandchildren knew.

In the year of '39
Came a ship in from the blue,
The volunteers came home that day.
And they bring good news
Of a world so newly born,
Though their hearts so heavily weigh.
For the earth is old and grey
To a new home we'll away,
But my love this cannot be,
For so many years have gone
Though I'm older but a year
Your mother's eyes from your eyes cry to me.

Don't you hear my call
Though you're many years away?
Don't you hear me calling you?
Write your letters in the sand
For the day I'll take your hand
In the land that our grandchildren knew.

Don't you hear my call
Though you're many years away?
Don't you hear me calling you?
All your letters in the sand
Cannot heal me like your hand,
For my life
Still ahead.
Pity me.

It says share your favourite lyrics - nothing about the titles. 8)

Oh, alright - that was "Oh Well" by Fleetwood Mac

"Return To Oz" - Scissor Sisters

Once there was a man
Who had a little too much... time on his hands
He never stopped to think that he was getting older
When his night came to an end
He tried to grasp for his last friend
And pretend that he could wish himself health on a four-leaf clover
He said-

(Is this the return to Oz?
The grass is dead, the gold is brown and the sky has claws
There's a wind-up man walking round and round
What once was Emerald City's now a crystal town)

It's three o' clock in the morning
You get a phone call from the queen with a hundred heads
She says that they're all dead
She tried the last one on, it couldn't speak, fell off
And now she just wanders the halls
Thinking nothing, thinking nothing at all

She says-
(CHORUS)

The wheelies are cutting pavement
And the Skeksis at the rave meant
To hide deep inside
Their sunken faces and their wild, rolling eyes
But their callous words reveal
That they can no longer feel
Love or sex appeal
The patchwork girl has come to cinch the deal

To return to Oz
We've fled the world with smiles and clenching jaws
Please help me friend from coming down
I've lost my place and now it can't be found

(CHORUS)
"You can always count on Adam for being the smart-arse around here."

So does nobody want to discuss '39? I'd have thought there'd have been a Queen fan or two here. I think Dev is one. (I intend no double meaning saying that.) I find the song interesting. How could you exist in "the land that our grandchildren knew"? I concede that this might be slightly more intellectual than many of the conversations we have on this forum but I suspect a few here might be able to handle it. ;) I've known this song for many years and it only recently occurred to me what it was about. Do I have no takers?

Let me ask a couple of leading questions:
Why were the seas milky?
How could they be many years away?
There's one other but it might completely give the game away.

In the year of '39
Assembled here the volunteers
In the days when lands were few.
Here the ship sailed out into the blue and sunny mornin',
The sweetest sight ever seen.
And the night followed day,
And the storytellers say
That the score brave souls inside
For many a lonely day
Sailed across the milky seas
Ne'er looked back, never feared, never cried.

Don't you hear my call
Though you're many years away?
Don't you hear me calling you?
Write your letters in the sand
For the day I take your hand
In the land that our grandchildren knew.

In the year of '39
Came a ship in from the blue,
The volunteers came home that day.
And they bring good news
Of a world so newly born,
Though their hearts so heavily weigh.
For the earth is old and grey
To a new home we'll away,
But my love this cannot be,
For so many years have gone
Though I'm older but a year
Your mother's eyes from your eyes cry to me.

Don't you hear my call
Though you're many years away?
Don't you hear me calling you?
Write your letters in the sand
For the day I'll take your hand
In the land that our grandchildren knew.

Don't you hear my call
Though you're many years away?
Don't you hear me calling you?
All your letters in the sand
Cannot heal me like your hand,

Still ahead.
