I study computer game development, and one of my tutors told us about a recently-released game whose name escapes me, but it was a small role-playing adventure sort of title. Anyway, the developers sold the game online through an official store for a very reasonable £5 or so, but at the same time they also released it anonymously themselves to file-sharing sites as an "illegal" download, the only difference being that all characters in the free game wore gigantic pirate hats. Almost immediately the developer's "hacker" accounts were inundated with non-buyers complaining bitterly about the hats and demanding the original version! Ungrateful sods, if you ask me.
